Split is as follows: 1 - black male, 2 - black females, 1 - chocolate male, 2 chocolate females. Everyone is doing very well. (See puppy pics on our 'Photos' page.)

How Many Are In There?

Darcy Lu had a radiograph yesterday. She has grown substantially in the past week and will do so until whelp, likely mid to end of next week. The vet and I determined 6 puppies for sure. There may be 1 or 2 more 'hiding' as she was a bit gassy and those gas bubbles made reading the film a bit more difficult. As always, she is taking her pregnancy in stride and has not uttered a single complaint about her increasing girth. She does enjoy being the centre of attention and relishes every moment!

Progesterone Tests.

After three progresterone tests and a close eye on her behaviour, we determined that Wed Apr 7 was the day to meet her mate. Upon arrival, she literally ran directly to Thade (she has impeccable taste) so they will likely fare well as instinct plays out.

Darcy Lu visits vet for annual examination and applicable vaccines. She is deemed in good health but could lose 5 pounds. We'll work on that!

Darcy Lu visits Dr. Quinn, veterinary eye specialist and gets her CERF examination done. She is perfect.

Good news from Molly and her new family!

Molly pass Grade 1 obedience tonight. She got excellent on all categories. We are all so proud of her. She will be enrolled in Grade 2 soon to learn more obedience skills. (See Molly on our 'Photos' page with snowmobile and children.)

Future Litters Update

People are looking forward to spring! Having received numerous puppy questionnaires lately, I felt it fair to inform you that we are not planning a 2009 litter. We will be working on more training with our dogs this year and see what we can accomplish. Doing 'fun stuff' with them is high on our priority list, too. On another note, 'Sunny' is the latest addition to Silverkeys Kennel. She is from the Sept 15/08 Razzle x Danny breeding, was the only yellow female of the litter, and won my heart from the start. She is currently in puppy class and we hope to continue training with her. She is a very clever girl and a beautiful rich russet colour with the darkest brown eyes I have ever seen in a yellow lab. Spunky, fearless and oh-so-eager to please, she has a winsome personality and a happy greeting for everyone she meets, canine and human. We'll keep you posted on her progress.

Puppies are 11 weeks old.

Puppies are 11 weeks old. 'Sammy' , our yellow male puppy, has found a wonderful home. 'Shimmer', our black female puppy, is still looking for a great home. She is a beautiful girl and so eager to please. She knows 'Sit' and we'll be starting house training in the upcoming week. Price reduced to $600 due to need to get these last two puppies into their 'forever homes' soon!

Puppies have received their second vaccinations. Upon vet check, all are deemed in good health. These puppies are not the left overs and definitely are not the proverbial 'runts of the litter'. The entire litter was born healthy and vigorous, are developing well and have surpassed my expectations for an outstanding litter, both in beauty and brains. Puppies are 10 weeks old

They will be receiving their second set of vaccinations this week. In true lab style, they love food, people and play but not necessarily in that order! The joy of discovery was evident in their introduction to snow - deep, fluffy, cold, wet, white snow. One couldn't help but smile while watching as they moved from hesitation and wariness to all out play mode in the white stuff. Although training a puppy does involve work and patience, we are rewarded many times over with the smiles and laughter they bring to our lives. We have decided to keep the yellow female puppy. Her colouring and temperament is so much like her mother, Razzle's, that we felt we shouldn't pass up the opportunity to train and enjoy another beautiful yellow female.

Please see our 'Litters' page for updated photos of our current litter. We have 6 puppies still available who are looking for great homes. Strangely, interest waned as the weather got colder and a few previously interested parties decided to wait for spring to purchase their puppies. Although cozier in the house with their families, labs really don't mind the cold weather. As far as house training goes, several past owners found this segment of training much easier in the fall as the puppies got their business done quickly and didn't want to stay outside sniffing every branch and plant in sight and tracking all the new scents our spring weather has to offer. So, if you're seriously considering adding a lab puppy to your household, don't miss out on the opportunity to acquire your new friend from this litter. They are truly outstanding puppies, very healthy and very affectionate. They will be getting their first vaccinations in the upcoming week plus their microchips. They are eating puppy kibble already and all have hearty appetites!

Razzle's litter has arrived!

Between 3:50 am and 12:42 pm 9 beautiful puppies made their entrance into the world. Everyone is doing great. The split is as follows: 4 - yellow males, 1 - yellow female, 1 black male, 3 black females. The puppies from this litter will be ready to take home by Nov 8. Dog Ownership Day

Canadian Kennel Club has announced a 'Responsible Dog Ownership Day'. My kind of day. Please consider becoming involved with this new event It's time to get media attention on good dog owners with good dogs and how they enhance our lives!

Excerpt from CKC Bulletin: On Saturday June 14, 2008, at the CKC Annual General Meeting, the Canadian Kennel Club announced the first ever National Responsible Dog Ownership Day* to be held this September. Events will begin Saturday, September 20, 2008, and culminate in an RDOG Walk, across Canada on RDOG'S DAY Saturday, September 27. "Responsible Dog Ownership Groups" (RDOGs) will rally across Canada in neighbourhoods large and small and collectively promote, educate and enlighten. We will speak to the enthusiastic dog lovers attending our events but, most importantly, we must interact with community members unfamiliar with the valued place our dogs have in Canadian society.
